Girls Take Charge

Learn to Boat Safely, Intelligently, and Independently

We believe girls can and should take the helm. Our two-day Boat Handling for Girls course empowers young women to boat safely, intelligently, and independently. Participants learn essential skills such as pre-boating safety, rules, navigation, basic knots, precise maneuvering, docking, and anchoring. We prepare them to take charge on the water and beyond by instilling confidence and competence in them.

Lessons for Littles

Little girls learn about safety on board. This is the window to let them know that we believe in lifejackets, sitting down when the boat is underway, and never riding on the bow! Clear and consistent messages make the safety part of boating fun!

Our littlest captains will love participating in Summer camp or after-school programs with other girls their age.

A Message from Your Captin

As the owner of She's at Sea, one of my passions is to empower young women through the confidence and skills needed to pilot a boat. Living in a coastal community, I believe there is no more excellent gift than teaching a young woman to take the helm with assurance and competence.

So much of my own life is spent on the water, and I want my daughter to cherish these moments and understand that her place is at the helm. It’s important to me that she sees girls and moms equally capable of leading a boat as boys and dads—a lesson extending far beyond the water.

For our littlest captains, we focus on making safety fun and accessible. From wearing lifejackets and sitting safely while underway to understanding basic boating rules, our Summer Camp and after-school programs are designed to foster a love for the water while building a strong foundation in boating safety.

My mission with She's at Sea is to create a space where girls feel empowered to take charge, not just on the water but in every aspect of their lives. Through these programs, I hope to inspire a new generation of confident, capable young women ready to navigate their courses—both on the waves and in the world.

Teens Taking Charge

Boat Handling for Teens equips young women with the skills and confidence to take charge on the water. Classes focus on advanced boating safety, navigation, and piloting techniques, ensuring teens can confidently manage boats and step in as leaders when needed. With an emphasis on empowerment and independence, the program prepares teens to navigate challenging situations and enjoy time on the water.

Already have experience on the water?

Schedule a refresher or a reset if your daughter has skills but needs to formalize some of the details. I will tailor a class to meet her at her skill level to get her on her way to taking charge of the boat. The half-day class (4.5 hours) is suitable for up to 3 young women and costs $350. A comprehensive “homework” program will be included as a take-home for independent follow-up.
